A House by the River

Perched on the banks of the river, this residence is designed to feel like a temporary guest of the landscape, barely touching the earth. By lifting the primary living spaces onto slender, sculptural V-columns, the architecture allows the breeze and the natural terrain to flow freely beneath the home. This elevation creates a distinct atmospheric split: the ground level is a grounded sanctuary for wellness, housing a sauna, jacuzzi, and a shaded pool-while the upper floor serves as a transparent pavilion in the trees. The use of a central brick core provides a textured, solid anchor to the lightness of the steel and glass, ensuring that while the house appears to float, it remains deeply connected to its context.

The upper level is an exercise in panoramic living, where the social and private zones are wrapped in expansive glazing to keep the river constantly in sight. Deep roof overhangs and strategic massing are used to temper the Raipur heat, creating shaded balconies that act as outdoor rooms. Inside, the three en-suite bedrooms and lounge are arranged to foster a sense of airy seclusion, where the boundary between the internal comfort and the river’s edge is almost entirely dissolved. It is a home that prioritizes the “pause,” offering a vantage point that celebrates the water through a lens of structural daring and environmental sensitivity.
