Imagination Center Dhun
The Imagination Centre is an exercise in earth-based architecture, demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship can shape a contemporary, climate-responsive environment. Developed in collaboration with Attic Light architects, the structure is built primarily from Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEB), utilizing the inherent thermal mass of the soil to naturally shield the interiors from the intense desert heat. The architecture rejects the typical boxy forms often associated with stabilized earth, introducing a fluid silhouette defined by sweeping, wave-like rooflines. These organic curves are realized through intricate joinery and a sophisticated structural logic, ensuring the building feels both innovative and deeply anchored to the rugged Rajasthan terrain.
The spatial layout is organized around the delicate balance of light and shadow, drawing functional inspiration from regional vernacular typologies. Deeply shaded colonnades wrap around the structure, mitigating the desert glare while creating comfortable, open-air pathways for gathering and circulation. Strategic roof cutouts pierce the heavy earth volumes, capturing the movement of the sun and inviting the sky into the core of the building. Rather than isolating the indoors from the elements, the design uses these openings to allow breezes to filter through, establishing a continuous dialogue with the surrounding ecosystem. The result is a tactile, breathing structure where the raw texture of the earth blocks pairs seamlessly with a dynamic modern geometry.
