Lucknow Residence

The Lucknow Residence emerges from a fundamental rethinking of domestic architecture, an exploration of the floor not merely as a surface to occupy, but as an active spatial element capable of shaping movement, interaction, and inhabitation itself. While architecture has traditionally celebrated the wall, the column, and the roof as primary generators of form, this project shifts its focus toward the ground plane, redefining habitable space through a series of wholly accessible inclined surfaces that expand the experiential and functional capacity of the residence.

The design envisions a home where movement becomes fluid and continuous, dissolving rigid separations between levels and programs. Instead of isolated rooms arranged along conventional corridors, the residence unfolds as a composition of dispersed yet interconnected spaces, linked through transitional voids, shifting planes, and visual continuity. These interstitial spaces become moments of pause, interaction, and light creating an architecture that breathes with openness while retaining intimacy.

Responding carefully to the site context, the residence is oriented to maximize its relationship with the expansive eastern views overlooking the golf course. The primary bedrooms and shared living spaces are positioned along this edge, allowing the interiors to engage constantly with the landscape, daylight, and changing atmospheres throughout the day. Utility and service zones are strategically consolidated toward the centre of the plan to ensure efficient circulation and ease of access, while the more private living areas are located toward the front edge of the site, maintaining a controlled relationship with the adjoining road.
