Garg Residence
The Garg residence is a villa for a multi-generational family. Rooted in the modernist legacy of Chandigarh, this residence draws inspiration from the architectural principles of Le Corbusier and the city’s carefully structured urban fabric. Conceived as a response to climate, proportion, and spatial openness, the design explores free floor plans, semi-open transitions, and courtyards that allow light, air, and landscape to flow seamlessly through the home.
The residence is envisioned as a layered living environment where solids and voids work together to create depth, pause, and movement. Central courtyards become anchors of interaction, while balconies, decks and semi-open spaces blur the relationship between indoors and outdoors.
The interior aesthetic of the residence draws inspiration from the clients’ affinity for subtle curved forms balanced with a sense of linearity. To translate these preferences into the spatial language of the home, the design evolved through a dual conceptual approach. At macro level, the residence was shaped through the interplay of solids and voids, creating depth, hierarchy, and a strong identity. At micro level, the introduction of filleted grids brought rhythm and linearity to the spaces, establishing a contrast against the softness of the curved forms.
The project balances sculptural expression with functional clarity, creating a home that feels both grounded in Chandigarh’s heritage and distinctly contemporary.
