Thalayalam, Noida
‘Thalayalam’ is a home rooted in the philosophy of the symbiosphere i.e symbiosis of the tangible and the intangible. At its heart, Thalayalam carries the memories of the Tampi family—their enduring bond with the South of India, cherished and carried with them while living in the North.
The family’s vast collection of art, artifacts, and antiques became the representation of these emotions. To honor these pieces, the home was envisioned as a canvas. The walls were treated as blank scrolls for their unhindered expression, while floors and other surfaces were composed to quietly complement them.
Their desire to embed their roots within their living space formed the cornerstone of the design. The architectural language draws inspiration from the vernacular traditions of Kerala—the central courtyard or nadumuttam, brass inlays on stone echoing the drape of sarees, and the warmth of wood with intricate carvings. These elements together weave a home that is not just lived in, but remembered—an environment where heritage and memory breathe into the everyday.
